Purpose
The International Engineering Research Conference (IERC) 2008 brings together engineering practitioners and stakeholders in government, industry and academia to discuss pressing issues and important advances relating to development, application and innovation of technologies. Primary focus is given on technologies relevant and appropriate to current and future demands in the context of Philippine development and globalization. Interdisciplinary approaches towards sustainable development are likewise highlighted in this conference.
Objectives
The conference, organized by the University of San Carlos, College of Engineering, aims for a productive exchange of ideas and sharing of research findings in the following interdisciplinary areas of engineering practice:
- Appropriate Technologies for the Built and Natural Environment
Construction and land use, building performance, indoor environments, transport systems, mining of resources, environmental technology and management, waste management, disaster mitigation.
- Alternative Energy Technologies
Non-conventional energy sources, biofuels, energy-saving devices, energy systems.
- Advanced Technologies
Developments and new applications in biotechnology (BT), information technology (IT), nanotechnology (NT), plasma technology (PT), electrohydrodynamic technology (EHDT) and other emergent technologies.
- Best Practices in Technology Development and Adoption
Industrial R&D case studies, technology transfer and management, government-industry -academe cooperation.
- Engineering and Technology Education
Creative pedagogies in engineering, engineering curriculum design, best practices, action researches, virtual classrooms, design and implementation of distributed learning systems.
